I love to a throw a good paranormal book in the mix to shake things up a bit. Here's the problem with paranormal books though, there is so much story to tell to make it all make sense that for some of them, I have find it hard for the book to keep my attention. That was the case with this book. (I know, boo! Hiss! Throw things, I know! I know!)There are a few authors that seems to find the balance nicely, some examples; Nicole Williams (The Eden Trilogy), Shelly Crane (The Significance Series), Jennifer Armentrout (The Lux Series) - I would recommend any of those if you are looking for a good paranormal read.
I so wanted to love this book, but I'd say I liked it enough that I will probably read the sequel and give K. Anne Raines another read. The writing style itself wasn't my problem, she was descriptive enough that I could picture everything happening. For me it was the story.
There were a couple times where I thought the story might pick up and then it would fall flat again. My partial frustration was with the love square that Grace had going on. Three potential love interests; Zeke, Quentin, and Darius. Zeke was the normal guy she went to school with who was absolutely adorable and all about Grace (although somehow he wound up with a girlfriend we never meet - but he still is all about Grace?) - huh? Quentin, The Guardian (and my favorite) who is here to protect her but also has feelings for her. Their push/pull relationship was frustrating at times but he was definitely my choice. He's always going to be there for her! They are connected. Darius fills the bad boy role. I never trusted him and then even in the end, I still wasn't all about him. I never really got why she was? And of course because I am Team Q - this whole Darius thing frustrated me to no end. I would have been happier if she fell for Zeke.
And that's what I felt like this story was mostly about. Here she is, an eighteen year old girl who finds out she's Chosen and she's mostly worried about her raging hormones. My other frustration - I think I needed more action, more adventure... more ass kicking! Because even when the ass kicking came, it was other people who did it. She's a Chosen for goodness sake!
I'm not really sure what the deal is with her and her cousin and where the second story is going to go...but I will probably give it a try and hope for the best. There is definitely a lot of potential to build on.

Shattered Grace Fallen from Grace Book 1 eBook K Anne Raines Pam Berehulke Reviews
I was really in the mood for a paranormal/angel story and this book sounded like a good one, so I gave it a chance. Don't get me wrong, it is a good book, but there doesn't seem to be much of a paranormal story line, other than a few of the characters. Nothing seems to happen except for everything that she is going through in her school life. Grace is also hard to like, in my opinion. She does have a good side, but she is overly dramatic and has a bit of a temper problem that comes in the strangest of places. A lot of times she gets so angry over such a minor detail it just doesn't really make sense. I have to say though, I haven't finished reading the book entirely, I'm about 80% of the way through..and still waiting for the paranormal aspect to come through. For example (possible spoiler alert), her powers. We know that she is basically an empath when she touches someone, but that's it? Are there more powers? I would think there would be because of who she is..same with Quinten, what about his powers? And, Darius? Who is Darius? We don't learn enough about the other characters. The entire book seems to be about Grace, her drama and her friends. It's worth reading if you're not trying to read a book about angels, but if you are, you may want to find another book. All of that being said, I will finish it and I may read the sequel..with the hope that paranormal aspect will be brought out in the second book.
If you're looking for action, I would definitely not recommend this book, seeing as no more than 5% of this book had short-lived bursts of action scenes; if you could even call it action.
Instead, if you were looking for some good ol' fashioned teen-angst, well look no further! This book is chocked full of boy drama, family issues, partying, and other teen crap that just might make you sick after about half-way through the book.
I don't know why, or how, I managed to get through this whole thing, while still maintaining an interested attitude. I just had such high hopes for this thing, but in my opinion promises made were not met. Not even close. A word of advice Don't ever settle for a book! Don't read just for the sake of it! Read because you want to, because it's fun and the book is worth the time put into it. This book is not worth the time, nor the effort.
Grace was an interesting enough character; She's stubborn, strong-willed, and an overall compassionate girl. Though honestly I think she needed to seriously knock it off with the wilting and crying at every turn, and the constant sniping at anyone who looked at her cross-eyed. Honestly, I think the fact that her 'Gift' is knowing peoples emotions through touch made her quite a bit Emo herself. Ugh. At least she knew where her loyalties lied and wouldn't let anyone down when they really needed her. She always had her friend's backs when they needed her and she was willing to forgive where forgiveness wasn't always easy, regarding her parents and other key characters. That, I must say, also showed a lot about her character.
I believe Grace has much potential, this being the only reason I will be reading the next book in Raine's "Fallen from Grace" series. What can I say, curiosity will get me every time.
