I have to add my voice to the two other reviewers who gave this a good review (surprised that there's only two) .. the reason I only gave it 4 stars is I reserve 5 stars for what I consider to be the masterpieces of our time as far as graphic novels.. " The Killing Joke" , " Watchmen" "V for Vendetta" "Preacher" , John Constantine Hellblazer back when Ennis was running the show, "Sandman" ... "Ex Machina" and " Y Last Man" are also great graphic novels but tend to get more of a 4 star rating from me since I don't consider them "classics" like the first set of comics I mentioned. This isn't to say "Fly" is a bad series at all, matter of fact I thoroughly enjoyed it .. the big problem is trying to publish a review without giving away so many plot spoilers that the book isn't fun to read.. as the capsule description here on amazon states it covers a drug that gives you super powers and talks about how far you would go to get those powers.. the really great thing about the book is that it knows how to limit it's scope - rather than concentrating on a zillion characters the emphasis is on 3, perhaps 4 or 5 , of them.. as a result you end up really feeling for these characters .. it's a very realistic portrayal of how power corrupts (literally) in some cases and you end up even feeling sorry for the "bad guy" (well "bad girl", the same one depicted on the cover of this graphic novel, but you get my meaning) towards the end of the story - and when you've got that going on you know you've got a good story. Even better it leaves you wanting more and I find myself eagerly awaiting the second installment of this series.
Sorry I know that's not a lot to go on but if I go into any more detail I'll ruin the surprises inside a graphic novel well worth your time unlike the "Batwoman-Elegy" and "Elseworlds-Golden Age" crap I just read (see my reviews for those too if you like) ... If you recognized and enjoyed the set of graphic novels I mentioned in the first paragraph of this review then , at the risk of generalizing way too much, I'm going to assume your comic book tastes are at least somewhat similar to mine, in which case you'll probably enjoy "Fly" too ..

A great story art cools too
Great story, great art.
Came fast well packaged. Now just need to read. Thought the story sounded way cool.
I was surprised by this series. It's actually quite good. The art becomes more developed as characters age, an interesting technique. Will follow.
The Cover is great! However the interior art is somewhere in-between an artist trying to do extremely serious book and on the flip side some flash backs done in a not so humorous style. Both ways the artist doesn't quite hit the mark. I did find the story to be very interesting and well thought out.
I kept dipping my toe in the Zenescope waters hoping to find a book I really enjoyed and found most of it to be Fairy Tale fluff mixed with a lot of T&A.
This book changes that. It is quite good and worth a read.
The story by Raven Gregory uses Superheroes as a metaphor for addiction. He bases the story on his and his ex-wife exeperiences with Meth. Gregory's voice is what elevates this story above average.
The art by Eric J. is not quite as good. When the story goes into flashback mode Eric J. changes his art style to a more cartoon/anime style. This style just did not seem to fit such a gritty story.
But overall an enjoyable read and I await volune two.
This story is a unique and fascinating exploration of the concept of drug addiction, based on the author's own first hand experience with it. The story uses a super hero type setting to explore addiction themes, such as how the addict feels, how it changes them over time, and how it devastates those around them (just to name a few of the most obvious). Underneath the fantasy elements of super powers there is an unflinching realism to the characters. The art's really good too in my opinion, albeit not all as sexy as the provacative cover Zenescope tries to lure you in with. If you're looking for the typical super hero story with flying, fighting, good guys vs. bad guys, or if you're hoping for comic porn as the cover sort of alludes to, this might not be your book. But if you're like me and you like to read comics that break out the Marvel/D.C. mold, with unique stories that really get you thinking, this might be worth checking out.
