I have to admit that I put this book down 2 or 3 times with the thought of not finishing. The beginning is a bit slow. Perhaps my expectations were pretty high based on the reviews the series has gotten and I didn't feel the first hundred pages or so were working for me. I have to admit that I don't remember this happening to me before but after I put it down (for good, I thought) before finishing, I found myself continuing to think about it and wonder what was going to happen. Actually, I thought the first third was accomplishing little other than putting random people together in different situations. And it didn't help any that much of the action was transpiring in a football milieu--as I'm not a fan. In any event, I was having a difficult time discerning a common thread.

However, after about a hundred pages, it grabbed me by both sides of my shirt collar and slapped me twice. I was hopelessly addicted and, of course, could not devour it with sufficient speed. I now have the other two in the trilogy on my bedside table which will also, at some point in the not too distant future, be consumed as the bon bons I suspect they are.

It's true that vampire fiction is one of my great guilty pleasures. Well, at least good vampire fiction. And although I prefer such fiction with a little more sensuality and less brutality, this did not hinder me from embracing the fun. Tres recommended.

The Vampire Within The Beginning Drew Silver 9781419636431 Books Reviews

This is the best vampire story I have read in a long time! The characters are cool, sexy, and evil and perfectly described by Drew! The story line is great and really "sucks" you in! I can't wait to read the next book in the series! I highly recommend this to all those vampire story lovers out there!
It started out not so good, but I kept telling myself to keep reading it has to get better....on about the third chapter the book had my full attention, I could not put it down very long. Lots of action towards the end....I cant wait to read the second book!
This book has a different take on the vampire theme, which was a really good idea, but the writing is disappointing. The dialog is terrible - no one speaks like that, least of all college kids. The characters are underdeveloped, and there's no rythm to the writing; there's also alot of "filler" info that serves no purpose. Can't recommend this one.
I read a lot of Vampire Fiction. I would call this an easy read and enjoyable. It did not overwhelm or underwhelm but was a nice distraction.
I have to admit that I was kind of skeptical about this book. It is not like the other vampire books that I have read. The vampires in this book are created by a serum but vampires can be made by being bitten by another vampire. I also liked the fact that it wasn't a vampire romance. I do enjoy those but this was so different. I already have the second book and can't wait to see what happens.
I was happy that the book arrived within the estimated date in perfect condition. Anyway, this book has a different style or approach in vampire theme altogether. At first it was slow and boring, but as the story unfold towards the end, it kind of got interesting to read. Unfortunately, I won't be compelled to buy the second book though since it is not my cup of tea. Sorry...
When I opened this book and begin reading I was hooked. My first sitting I read half the book. It's the story of a scientist recruiting students to participate in an experiment taking place on college campus. The lure is this new enhancing drug can cure physical defaults such as asthma and acne. It can even improve talents for athletes. However, there are some nasty side effects. What the good scientist isn't telling is he's looking to make himself immortal as well as his wife and to do so he must keep testing on the students. All the while he's making himself a vampire army. Along the way you'll discover there are good vampires and bad vampires and they are warring. Once injected you basically have a decision, which side are you going to be on.

I enjoy that this book is easy fast reading. The chapters aren't terribly long and they are broken into smaller sections. Each of these sections will start a new scene with a different set of characters. I enjoy this very much. For the most part I had no trouble following each characters story. However, in the end a couple new characters introduced that I do not remember in the previous pages. I'm guessing the following books will explain their part and how they are related. They were just kind of plopped in there and it left wondering, did I forget about these guys earlier. Not necessarily, kind of puts a mystery to the story.

It's a good book, a keeper, and I'll be reading the next book.
