After the first Jamie McGuire flop for me when I read Beautiful Disaster, I decided to give her another shot so I thought this book looked interesting enough… and well, I was pleasantly surprised how much I really LIKED it. I was intrigued by the plot line to see where it would go and I enjoyed the characters, for the most part.

This was an angel/demon PNR that was light on the action and heavier on the budding relationship between Nina and Jared. I was hoping to have a bit more action with this book, but there are two more in the series so I think we’ll get there eventually… at least I hope so.

I absolutely adored Jared. He was a half angel/half human hybrid that was absolutely swoon-worthy and dripping with sweetness, but still giving off that alpha male protectiveness vibe that made my tummy flutter. His main job was to keep Nina safe from any harm without falling in love with her, but he broke the rules and fell head over heels from watching and protecting her from a distance for years without her noticing him. All he wanted was to touch her and for her to see him, so he finally said “screw the rules” and made it happen.

“I was in love with you before you ever knew I existed. It was difficult to be around you for hours on end and not be able to comfort you or touch you or even speak to you. I wasn’t allowed to let you see me, but it was my job to watch your every move.”

I liked Nina for the most part, except for a chapter or two near the end when I wanted to shake some sense into her, although I’ll admit that she was a strong female lead. There was a touch of a love triangle that I freaking HATED because it hurt Jared, and a man with a heart as big as his needs all the love, but Nina was stubborn and she needed to make the decision for herself… I just wish the plot was more focused on the action and not the messy stuff. But by the ending, I was satisfied and so happy I could cry.

“I exist for you, Nina, this mortal being so precious to the creator of the universe that He allowed my existence. Tell me that’s not incredible.”

The writing was smooth, flawless and flowed extremely well. McGuire was able to suck me in to make me feel like I was living in the world with these characters, who showed great development along the way. I literally did not want to put this book down as soon as I started so I’m definitely glad that I decided to give this author another shot and I’m excited to start on the next book, Requiem.

Providence Volume 1 Jamie McGuire 9780615417172 Books Reviews

I stumbled upon this book a while ago a few times, but it never stood out to me and when I read the description, it sort of reminded me of Twilight so I never gave it a chance. But after seeing it pop up so many times as a recommend read by , I decided to try again. And OMG was I in love!!!! This book was so well written in a sense that Jamie was able to put her wild imagination onto paper and make it believable!!! I was so deep into the story and tryin my best to grasp everything bcuz there's so much to these characters, that you wanna make sure you miss NOTHIN!! I won't lie, this book does remind me a bit of Twilight and another book Inescapable, but each book has their own story to be told in their own unique way, and with Providence you find yourself automatically separating the 3 bcuz the storyline and imagination of Providence is so creative and gives you a lot more background to the characters that causes you to fall in love with all of them. This book gives you a good amount of romance (which I LOVE) and a equally good amount of fantasy that balances the book PERFECTLY. Twilight will always be number one to me, but Providence is a damn good runner up and still deserve a well earned 5 stars!!!! MUST READ PPL!!!
I'm really not into paranormal stories, so I was hesitant in trying this one. I loved Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster then was lukewarm about Beautiful Oblivion, so I was nervous reading this one. Jamie McGuire, why haven't you stuck with writing like this? This story has emotion and longing and excitement. Nina is young and pretty innocent as she's been protected her whole life without knowing it then her dad dies and her life changes--she's not aware of the changes until people start showing up wanting her dead, but she is aware of Jared, the stranger she met at the bus stop who seems so familiar to her and who keeps turning up when she is scared or in danger. Jared is completely there for whatever Nina wants--he has to be--he is there to protect her. BUT he has always been in love with her. This is the story of loving someone you shouldn't because your heart just does no matter the consequences instead of going the safe route that your brain wants, but you know will never be enough. I loved it. I will read the next two books, no matter what angels, demons, and other unworldly creatures show up using the humans to come after Nina and Jared.
What a nice surprise! I always gird myself when I start reading a free ebook. Most books, you get what you pay for. Not in this instance. This was a well written, complete story and an HEA to boot. It is part of a trilogy (Definitely worth paying, and reading on!) but it ends on a high note with a touch of intrigue.

The story begins with Nina, a college freshman who is in deep mourning for the tragic death of her father. She is a mess with grief when she meets Jared. He seems to show up whenever she needs help and adds to the mystery of this handsome stranger.

This read very much like a typical New Adult story. The paranormal elements are lite so the world building isn't hard to follow.

Their love story is sweet, but I was a little annoyed with the attempt at a love triangle.

All in all, an easy read and a unique story worth reading and sharing with your friends.
