Animal K'wan Books
I have to say that I'm a little disappointed with this book. I had heard so many good things about it but it left me underwhelmed. First let me say that the technique of this author is definitely top-notch in comparison to other urban fiction authors. But other than that, this story was no different than any other street lit novel. It had waaaaaay too many characters and I'm still struggling to remember who's who and why their storylines matter. As far as the main character, Animal, I honestly finished this book feeling like he was a punk. For somebody who's supposed to be so big and bad he failed to do what he set out to do. There were a few moments in this book that just made him look downright stupid. Some things that I did like was that there wasn't a lot of sex nor a lot of profanity. For the most part though this story was very predictable (except for the spin at the very end). I still say that this was just your average hood novel. I don't think I will waist my time or money on part two.

Animal K'wan Books Reviews
Animal, the sixth installment of the Hood Rat series, is nothing short of astounding. BOOM!!! Once again, K'wan delivers another powerful punch to the literary game.
Hip Hop mogul and royal pain in the ass, Don B (itch) is still up to his dirty tricks. He's now preying upon an up and coming rapper, Young Dance. He's readily smitten by Don B's excessive lifestyle and remains uncertain if he should sign up with music's most successful label or remain independent and shackle free.
Tayshawn a/k/a Animal has returned to the streets of his hometown with a vengeance. He's out for blood for those responsible for gunning down his beloved, Gucci. Friends and family attempt to dissuade Animal's thirst for revenge. Nonetheless, he refuses to rest until Gucci's shooter is annihilated.
Once drug lord, Shai Clark, discovers there's a phantom on the loose, he senses the phantom is gunning for his head.
Will Animal and Gucci be able to finally live peacefully? Will Don B finally get what's coming to him? No need to fret; I have faith that K'wan will most definitely deliver those answers (and far more) in the next Hood Rat installment.
Favorite Character
Alonzo - a gentle soul until provoked, watch out when he erupts
Least Favorite Character
Don B - will he ever pay for his wickedness
Favorite scene
Alonzo knocking Don B out in BBQ's (glass of soda falling onto his head was hilarious)
Least Favorite Scene
Tionna's murder and Gucci's abduction
If there was one thing you could intensify OR modify in the storyline, what would it be?
I would love to witness Don B fall deeply in love and then have the woman destroy him and his empire. That would be sweetest revenge.
Final rating 4.5
This is not for the weary. K'wan has been a favorite of mines for a long time. He has a knack for being a great storyteller of fast pace novels with lots killing. This is not for the faint at heart. He has a gift of being able to incorporate numerous characters all of who play an essential part. You will have to be able to keep up. It helps to have read the previous novels as his characters that haven't been killed off don't die they multiply. You will never know when you will see a character from a previous book pop up.
Welcome to a gangster love story. This is not for the faint at heart. Gucci has been shot and nothing will stop Animal from getting to the love of his life. Not the fact that everyone thinks he is dead. Not the fact that he is a fugitive and not the fact that he has enemies in NYC. None of that matters as his heart is breaking and those responsible will feel the wrath of Animal.
The book started out slow to me as I was waiting for the climax. About halfway through is when the novel starts to jump start into gear for me and then I was off to the races to see how it was going to end. Shai Clark is back and he is still the man, King James and his crew want the top spot but we know Shai is not going down that easy. Zo- pound is back in the street hard body. Don B is still up to his tricks but can he still shock us? Yes he can and he does. I was flipping pages to get to the end and when I reached the end I was like "oh s***." See,this is why I waited so long to read as I know there would be a part two, that I can't wait to dive into. So now I'm just counting down to the release of "Animal 2." K'wan has done it again he brought the fire back.

Let me start by saying this book is 400 pages and I completed it in one day. Once I started I did not stop until it was completed. I have read all of the Hood Rat series and most of K'wan's other work, but this by far is now the best! Even if you haven't followed the series, I still recommend this book. This book follows Animal as he takes off on a journey of revenge all for the love of his life Gucci. While Gucci is in a coma and fighting for her life, Animal is out making the people responsible pay with their lives. Then there is Ashanti, who was a part of Animal's old crew, and is currently involved in a war with the Clarks because he works for King James. Everyone thinks Animal is dead, so the Clark's have an unknown enemy. We also get to catch up with other's from the Hood Rat series, so if you haven't read the series, K'wan does a wonderful job of giving backstory on the characters so you can keep up. Outside of Animal and Ashanti, Alonzo aka Zo-Pound is one of my favorite characters. He is always at a constant struggle with trying to keep his old self Zo-Pound from reappearing for good. This is a must read! I am seriously considering reading this book again and that happens rarely! It was full of surprises, twists, and turns. You would never guess the outcomes for any of the characters! Bravo K'wan! I am a fan for life!
